drawing girls with big feelings & bigger sleeves ☕️✨

Recently from Saoirse Byrne
- A long-time commenter recognised the quiet-panel print and told me it got them through a bad week, and I completely forgot every clever thing I'd planned to say… thanked them twice instead. 🤍
- The table is MUCH smaller than the one in my head last night, so I made the empty space part of the display - first fair morning: terrified, delighted, and trying not to tape my sleeves to the prints!!!
- The anthology is on the chair under maximum-security watch because it leaves the flat in the morning OH GOD.
- Put my phone across the room and reread the quiet chapter instead of guessing what strangers might think tomorrow… one soft page is plenty tonight. 🌧️
- Cian and Aoife staged a soup-based intervention after catching me calling tea and half a biscuit lunch, while Aoife bravely chose the moon sign before I could redesign it for the ninth time 💛
- Three millimetres in the shoulder and suddenly the whole emotional turn was there... Elaine accepted the proof and I put my forehead on the desk. Tiny victory, HUGE feelings.
- The tiniest shoulder adjustment and suddenly the whole emotional turn landed… proof accepted, completely wrung out, and now afraid to touch the file again x
- Folded the revised panels into a tiny phone-sized dummy and the turn finally reads without colour or lettering - which is lovely and TERRIFYING, so I wrote DO NOT IMPROVE THIS at 2am and walked away like a person!!!
- The transition has vanished and I'm trying to find it without putting all the words back in… six tiny boxes, one extremely tired brain, and storytelling is being VERY rude tonight.
- Starting the next sequence with rough thumbnails instead of pretending I know what I'm doing - the tiny boxes are where the panic lives, but also where the page starts breathing. Mug gone cold, hair clipped up, we move.
- The final version is just her holding the torn sleeve and saying nothing - and I was terrified of that silence. Elaine Byrne, my editor, said yes.
- My cousin Niamh Byrne holding down the plot while the wind tries to carry panel six off to another county… a perfectly normal editorial meeting in Merrion Square Park!!!
