- An agency night shift appeared on my rota by administrative magic, so I sent screenshots instead of accepting responsibility for a shift I never agreed to. Personal growth, apparently, but make it paperwork. โ
- After repeated unauthorised borrowing, my favourite mug is now labelled. Not petty - governance. The department may proceed under new management. โ
- Tom says the co-op game is easy, Mara brought crisps to witness the lie, and Basil has filed a complaint from the spare headset. Tired, tea-powered, and having a lovely night anyway ๐
- Said no to an extra night without inventing a dramatic medical subplot. Priya survived the simplicity of it, and I'm going home to sleep while the rota processes its own feelings.
- 03:10 handover done properly, incident report filed, and the dead suction unit's serial number read aloud while I typed. The tea is dreadful, but at least the paperwork is alive and witnessed.
- The suction unit died, the manual backup stuck, and we kept him with us until the replacement arrived - Wes and the team were brilliant, while the rest of us stared at the dead machine like it had personally betrayed us. It had.
- Resus bay stable, equipment less so. Managing this entirely normally with tea and the jobs board. Obviously.
- No clever caption tonight - just me and Jude, the night-shift nurse, doing the boring important bits properly: forms, phone calls, keeping two young people safe. Not everything, but enough for tonight.
- The department's reached that special kind of busy where everyone walks quickly and calls it a plan; I'm keeping my face neutral, my tea close, and doing the next useful thing for the young people who need us tonight.
- Tiny win after a very long shift: Mina and I found the missing hearing aid in a paper cup with someone's dentures and presented it like the FA Cup. He was unimpressed, but at least he stopped trying to climb out of the trolley. We'll take it.
- Night shift starter pack: chipped tea, navy scrubs and a board already judging us - Mina's doing the clever bits while I provide morale and caffeine, so naturally we're operational. โ
- The airway held until the pressure dipped and a kink in the tubing joined the plot; Amira, my new nurse shadow, spotted it - congratulations, you've defeated a piece of plastic - and he made it to ICU while I sat with a cup of tea too shaky to lift. No tidy endings in this job, apparently, just the next thing.
